Diwali can be a useful moment for an Authorised Person (AP) to reconnect with investors, explain how stock-market trading works and help interested clients get their accounts ready.
But it is not a licence to promise profits or persuade somebody to trade simply because the day is considered auspicious. The most successful festive campaign will be the one that builds trust after the trading session is over.
This year, NSE Muhurat Trading takes place on Sunday, 8 November 2026.
The exchange’s circular dated 19 October 2026 specifies an afternoon session, with different closing arrangements for securities covered by the Closing Auction Session (CAS).
For sub-brokers, this creates a short, well-defined occasion for client education, account-readiness checks and ongoing service—not guaranteed brokerage income.
Diwali Muhurat Trading 2026: date and market timings
Muhurat Trading is a special exchange session traditionally held around Diwali. It is a real trading session: orders are executed under exchange rules and completed trades create settlement obligations.
Do not confuse it with the evening Lakshmi Puja muhurat, which is a religious observance and may have different local timings.
| NSE segment or session | Sunday, 8 November 2026 (IST) | Practical implication for clients |
| Equity pre-open | 2:05 pm–2:20 pm | Check the broker’s supported order types and pre-open instructions. |
| Equity continuous trading — CAS securities | 2:20 pm–3:15 pm | CAS-eligible stocks enter the separate closing-auction process afterward. |
| Closing Auction Session (CAS) | 3:20 pm–3:35 pm | Separate order entry and matching arrangements apply. |
| Equity continuous trading — non-CAS securities | 2:20 pm–3:30 pm | Normal trading ends later than for CAS securities. |
| Equity F&O | 2:20 pm–3:40 pm | Derivatives carry substantial risk and require segment activation. |
| Currency and commodity derivatives | 2:20 pm–3:30 pm | Availability and broker-level restrictions may differ. |
The schedule above is based on the NSE capital-market circular dated 19 October 2026, the corresponding exchange circulars for derivatives and Zerodha’s 27 October 2026 market bulletin.
Investors should use the final notice from their own broker for supported orders, funding deadlines, special auction rules and any auto-square-off restrictions.
Broker-specific offers, such as brokerage reversals, do not apply automatically across the market.
What can a sub broker do during Muhurat Trading?
People still search for a “sub broker franchise”, but the regulated exchange-facing role is an Authorised Person.
A stockbroker appoints an AP and the exchange approves them; the AP is not an independent stockbroker and cannot operate outside the appointed trading member’s controls.
The distinction matters even more when a festive campaign attracts inexperienced investors.
An AP may help people understand the broker’s account-opening process, complete permitted onboarding steps, find official education resources and resolve operational questions through approved channels.
Trading decisions, order authorisation, funds and credentials must remain with the client and the broker’s authorised systems.
An AP should never collect client money into a personal account, take passwords, place unauthorised trades or push transactions to generate brokerage.
NSE’s inspection findings for Authorised Persons specifically identify unauthorised trading, handling client funds and unapproved advertisements or solicitation as problem areas. Those are real operating risks, not technicalities.
If you are evaluating the business itself, Finobizz’s sub broker registration process explains how the broker-led exchange approval works.
Why Diwali can attract better client conversations
A festive stock-market session brings together three audiences that usually need different kinds of help. Existing investors may want to know whether their account, funds and enabled segments are ready.
First-time investors may have heard about Muhurat Trading but may not understand settlement, order types, volatility or the difference between investing and speculative trading.
Dormant clients may appreciate an account-security or service check without any pressure to trade.
For the AP, the opportunity is not to maximise trades over one afternoon. It is to convert genuine questions into a reliable client relationship.
A customer who remembers that an AP explained the risks clearly is more valuable over time than someone who opened an account after being promised a “Diwali profit”.
| Audience | Useful festive conversation | Sensible next action | Avoid |
| Existing active client | Account readiness, margin and order-cutoff checks | Share broker-approved timetable and help centre | Encouraging unnecessary churn |
| Dormant client | Login security, contact details and service concerns | Offer an opt-in service review | Saying a trade is required to keep the account active |
| First-time investor | What Muhurat Trading means and the risks of equities/F&O | Send official investor education and onboarding information | Promising returns or a “lucky stock” |
| Existing lead without an account | Documents, KYC, nomination and platform access | Explain the approved account-opening process | Rushing KYC or guaranteeing same-day activation |
| Family or local business referral | Difference between trading and investing | Invite questions through an authorised channel | Using a customer’s contacts without consent |
Seven client acquisition strategies that make sense for APs
1. Run a short Muhurat Trading explainer—not a stock-tip session
An educational video or small local session can explain why the exchange opens on Diwali, how the special schedule works, what a limit order is and why festive sentiment does not remove market risk.
Use only broker-approved slides and avoid personalised buy/sell recommendations unless separately permitted under the relevant regulatory framework.
Ask participants whether they want official account-opening information; do not treat attendance as consent for repeated sales calls.
2. Offer an account-readiness checklist to existing clients
One practical service is a reminder to verify mobile number, login access, available balance, enabled segments and any broker announcements well before 8 November.
This is particularly helpful for clients who trade infrequently. Do not ask for passwords or OTPs; direct the client to the broker’s own secure application.
3. Build a beginner’s “first transaction” education series
Explain market orders versus limit orders, delivery versus intraday, exchange charges, taxes and settlement in everyday language. It is better to use a hypothetical order screen than to promote a security.
Interested readers can then choose whether to open an account. Account opening must remain subject to the broker’s KYC and acceptance process.
4. Reconnect with inactive clients through service, not urgency
An opt-in message asking whether someone needs help finding statements, updating contact information or using the broker’s official learning resources is more credible than “Trade this Diwali or miss out”.
Keep service reminders distinct from promotional messages and follow applicable consent and telecom rules.
5. Coordinate a local investor-education meet-up
For an AP with a physical office, a short session on digital fraud, risk disclosures, and how to verify a broker’s identity may build local trust.
The trading member should approve the event and all promotional material before the AP publishes invitations or branding.
6. Publish answers to real client questions
Instead of another generic “best Muhurat stocks” post, prepare a broker-cleared FAQ: Is the market open on Sunday? When is the equity session?
Does every security close at the same time? Can I submit orders without an activated account? Do completed trades settle normally? Helpful answers often bring qualified enquiries long after the festival.
7. Follow up after Diwali with a service plan
Within the next week, share only what the client requested: a beginner education resource, account-opening follow-up or platform walkthrough.
A useful monthly contact rhythm—service reminders, fraud alerts and approved learning materials—can sustain trust without pressuring the client to transact.
A practical 14-day Muhurat Trading outreach calendar
| Timing | Campaign activity | Intended result | Compliance checkpoint |
| 29–31 Oct | Obtain broker approval for creative, dates and landing page | Ready-to-publish education material | Exchange/member advertisement approval route |
| 1–3 Nov | Share a fact-based timetable and risk explainer | Reach interested, opted-in people | No performance or return promise |
| 4–6 Nov | Help existing clients with login and service questions | Fewer avoidable operational issues | Never request credentials or funds |
| 7 Nov | Send broker-approved final session reminder | Clear expectations before Sunday | Confirm segment-specific timetable |
| 8 Nov | Provide approved operational guidance during the session | Accurate service, not trade pressure | No unauthorised order placement |
| 9–12 Nov | Respond to questions and complete legitimate onboarding follow-ups | Durable client relationships | Respect opt-outs and data permissions |
Can Muhurat Trading increase a sub broker’s commission?
Potentially, but increased participation does not guarantee higher AP income. An AP’s contract determines which brokerage is shareable, the revenue-share percentage, deductions, incentive terms and payout timing.
Some brokers run special Muhurat Trading brokerage policies; a broker may even reverse brokerage on particular trades. An AP cannot assume normal earnings from every festive transaction.
Consider a purely illustrative case. Suppose an AP’s agreement defines ₹30,000 as eligible shareable brokerage for the period and the AP’s contracted share is 55%.
The gross revenue share would be ₹16,500, before relevant adjustments or operating expenses. If the eligible base is only ₹10,000 because of lower activity or fee reversals, the same percentage produces ₹5,500.
Neither figure is a forecast. This is why the exact revenue base matters more than a festive headline.
Finobizz’s guide on sub broker income and commission explains the revenue-sharing model in more detail. For a long-term partnership, the sub broker franchise agreement deserves as much attention as the promotional campaign.
What an AP must never promise in a Diwali advertisement
Market participation is not the same as investment suitability. Do not present a stock, F&O position or strategy as profitable simply because it is bought during an auspicious session.
Do not advertise “assured returns”, “risk-free Muhurat gains”, “SEBI-approved stock tips” or “guaranteed profits”. Do not use a broker logo or announce account-opening incentives without written authorisation.
NSE’s advertisement FAQ for members explains when the exchange requires prior approval for content that promotes brokerage services or solicits account openings.
APs should follow the appointing trading member’s approval workflow, including applicable exchange approval, before publishing.
SEBI also introduced 2026 social-media identity-disclosure requirements for covered regulated entities and agents.
The broader digital marketing rules for financial agents are worth understanding before running Meta, Google or WhatsApp campaigns.
How to measure whether a festive campaign actually worked
Trading volume is a poor stand-alone marketing metric. Monitor the number of consented enquiries, qualified onboarding requests, completed KYC applications, properly activated accounts and subsequent service satisfaction.
Also track opt-outs and unresolved complaints. If you pay for advertising, compare the actual compliant cost per activated client with the value of client servicing over several months—not the brokerage earned on 8 November alone.
| Metric | Example calculation | What it tells you |
| Consented enquiries | 80 people explicitly request contact | Interest with a lawful follow-up basis |
| Qualified enquiries | 40 of the 80 meet the broker’s basic criteria | Lead quality, not vanity traffic |
| Completed applications | 18 of 40 finish their documents | Whether onboarding assistance is useful |
| Activated accounts | 12 are accepted/activated | Actual acquisition outcome |
| Illustrative campaign cost | ₹6,000 / 12 = ₹500 per activation | A planning metric, not a guaranteed acquisition cost |
Frequently asked questions
When is Muhurat Trading in 2026?
NSE has scheduled it for Sunday, 8 November 2026. The equity pre-open begins at 2:05 pm IST and the regular equity session begins at 2:20 pm. Closing times differ by security category and segment.
Can a sub-broker execute Muhurat trades for clients?
An AP must operate only within the activities permitted by its broker and exchange rules. Taking a client’s login credentials, making unauthorised trades or trading to increase brokerage is not permitted.
Is Muhurat Trading guaranteed to be profitable?
No. It is a cultural market tradition, not an investment-return guarantee. Standard market, liquidity and product risks still apply.
Can a new investor open an account on Diwali itself?
Account applications may be submitted through a broker’s approved channel, but account activation depends on verification, the broker’s process and applicable operational cutoffs. Same-day readiness should not be promised.
Are brokerage charges waived during Muhurat Trading?
Only where the individual broker announces such a policy. It is not an exchange-wide guarantee. The broker’s specific terms govern the charges and the AP’s eligible sharing base.
The business lesson behind one special trading session
Muhurat Trading lasts only part of a day. A good AP business is built over years. Use Diwali to explain the market clearly, support existing clients, and invite genuinely interested people into a properly regulated onboarding process.
The festival can start a conversation; honesty and service decide whether it becomes a lasting relationship.
